What to do if your Catalytic Converter is Stolen
Recently we have gotten several calls from clients who have discovered their catalytic converter had been stolen. Sadly, this kind of theft is on the rise! If you aren’t familiar with this type of crime, essentially thieves are removing the catalytic converter, which is a part found on the exhaust on automobiles. It is attractive to criminals because it is pretty easy to remove in just minutes, and it can be sold for quick cash. But for the car owner, these pieces are fairly expensive to replace. |

If you discover that your catalytic converter has been stolen, here are the steps you can take: * Don’t drive the car! Thieves can cut other parts of the car while they are getting the converter that can impact the car’s drivability. *Contact your auto insurance company to report the theft. You may also want to, or be required, to contact the police. *The replacement will only be covered if you have comprehensive coverage on your auto policy. So double check your auto insurance policy to make sure you have this comprehensive insurance. *Depending on your auto insurance provider, you may be required to take your vehicle to an auto shop for a third party for verification. Even if you have not experienced this kind of theft, it is worth it to check your auto policy to see if you have comprehensive coverage.
